General Information

Since 2001 Italy-Japan Workshop has been organized by Waseda University and Scuola Sant’Anna Superiore di Pisa and sponsored by the Embassy of Italy in Tokyo. Every year, specific themes have been discussed and analyzed, involving the needs of governments, universities, research centers, and industries of both countries.
Also in 2014, speakers from both Italy and Japan are going to share their experiences and their visions on robotics and on its role for the support of the future society. Demonstrations by companies, STMicroelectronics and Solidworks, co-sponsors of the event, will also be exhibited alongside the presentations by keynote speakers. The workshop will be hosted by Waseda University, showing its fundamental role as one of the most important partners for this event, again over the years: a dedicated space is prepared for the robotics laboratories of Waseda University .

The main emphasis of the Italy-Japan Workshop 2014 is the integration of robots in the society as co-workers among humans. In this modern age of technology, many people daily use at least one system for digital assistance; wearable robotics will be treated as one of the main topics, to augment the experiences in daily life. Working so close with a machine, safety and security have become the highest priority: within this vision, the workshop will open discussion on regulations and policies for ICT and robotics, including the societal challenge of robots as co-workers .
Another main topic will be the industrial robotics for maintenance and agriculture, considering that this theme is covered, both in Japan and Italy, by a huge number of small production industries. This discussion will be completed by dedicated talks on aerial and underwater robotics.

A discussion panel, with all the invited speakers, will close the workshop, together with a poster session from students with a special prize for the best innovative idea of robots as co-workers.
